Giselle Zhu is a pianist and piano instructor from China, currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Music Therapy at New York University. She began studying piano and flute at the age of seven and has participated in international competitions and educational concert tours in the United States and several Western European countries with orchestras.
In 2019, she was admitted to the Piano Performance program at the School of Art, Shandong University, where she appeared in over 40 national-, provincial-, and university-level concerts. During her undergraduate studies, she frequently served as a collaborative pianist for orchestral, vocal, and large-scale choral performances, gaining extensive stage and ensemble experience. She was recommended for graduate studies with the highest GPA in her cohort in 2022 and presented a solo piano recital in Jinan, China the following year. In 2025, she continued her graduate training in Music Therapy at New York University. In her piano teaching, Giselle emphasizes the development of students’ musicality, encouraging them to perceive musical motion, emotional expression, and the meaning behind the music, while supporting students in articulating their own expression. At the same time, she applies efficient and scientifically grounded technical practice methods, allowing technical development and musical expression to reinforce one another. Drawing on her background in music therapy, she integrates humanistic, relational, and developmental approaches into her piano instruction, with the goal of helping students not only build solid skills and musical understanding, but also develop confidence, self-awareness, and a positive relationship with music through the learning process. |
