OUR STORY

"KOKO Music strongly believes the importance of understanding each student's personality and uniqueness to design programs in order to motivate students. We provide human-centered, creative, and positive musical experiences created from a collaboration of backgrounds; music performance and music therapy."

Welcome to KOKO Music DUMBO! We offer Early Childhood Music Classes for children aged 3&4 inspired by Solfège techniques, as well as private/semi-private lessons for PIANO, GUITAR, and VOICE at all levels.

We are a small, family-owned music school that values intimacy and coziness. Our aim is to offer quality lessons that are highly adaptable, allowing every student and family to develop a close relationship with each teacher, fostering a vibrant musical community. Our students range from absolute beginners to advanced learners, spanning from 3 to 80 years old! We provide performance chances twice a year at a professional music venue.

KOKO means "here" in Japanese, and this is the place where we all make music harmoniously together. KOKO MUSIC cultivates a collaborative creative environment where music learners from all backgrounds can enjoy, explore, express, and expand their musicality.

Our practice utilizes unique and individualized methods that enhance the students' learning experiences through tailored programs. Our goal is to cultivate and provide student-centered, positive, engaging and quality musical experiences in intimate and comfortable settings to expand the potential in students of all abilities. At the same time, we motivate them to challenge themselves and avoid becoming complacent!

Our team are dedicated professional musicians and educators who have a genuine passion and love for teaching children and adults of all levels. We aim to cultivate children's love for music because we believe that music education helps children shine, become more confident, and adds extra color to their lives! Learning music can be fun, exciting and pleasing, while also nurturing children's artistic senses. It also involves discipline, perseverance, critical thinking, and patience, ultimately contributing to personal development.

We encourage each KOKO MUSIC student to treasure their uniqueness, explore their curiosity, broaden their imagination, and embrace creative self-expression through music.  It is our greatest pleasure to share this gift that lasts a lifetime!

MISSION & PHILOSOPHY

1. We put a huge emphasis on building healthy, positive, and engaging teacher-student relationships.

2. Not only do we work closely with students, but also with their parents to support and guide them through. We strongly believe that the parents' engagement, involvement, and loving attitude towards music are extremely important.

3. We are passionate music educators rather than musicians. We care and respect every student's uniqueness, learning style, strengths, and needs to carefully tailor individualized programs which are extremely important factors in order to spark interest and skills.

4. We cherish the bond and community that music can build, and strive to support our students' learning journey along with their families.

"Tomoko is a truly brilliant musician and teacher. Her artistry and technical skill are impeccable, and she exudes warmth and patience. My daughter started piano lessons with her at 41/2 years old, and they have had a wonderful relationship from the outset. Tomoko meets my daughter where she is at each lesson-never pushing too hard or letting her take it too easy."

Abby- a parent

"I have to say that I have seem my daughter blossom musically under the guidance of Tomoko. Not only does she learn piano but also voice and musicality, which together creates a wonderful appreciation of music. Tomoko's approach makes music fun and enjoyable."

Melissa - a parent
"Tomoko is patient and gentle, yet takes herself and her students seriously and pushes us encouragingly to develop. She does not only focus on our skills but also expand our musical education and horizons more broadly."
Diana- a parent

"I am thrilled to have Tomoko as my children's piano instructor because she is first and foremost a lover of music and a believer in its power to be a lifelong source of joy."
Tracey- a parent
"I feel lucky that we get to work with Tomoko and can't thank her enough for putting so much heart and passion into her students' education."
Bernd- a parent
"Big shout out to Mo's first music teachers, the wonderful Tomoko & Yusuke. This fall, they started MUSICOCOTTE, an early childhood music class for toddler students at their studio in Dumbo, & I have nothing but good things to say about them & the beautiful space they create through song & play every Saturday morning. "
